Early Warning
With regards to human security, early warning mechanisms are designed to provide advanced notification of pending disasters; and timely warning and response can prevent immense human suffering. Both qualitative and quantitative methods of assessment are employed in providing early warning. Models based on monitoring indicators abound, the merits of which are often difficult to assess, especially when the political will to act upon the early warning information is lacking.
