About the International Peace and Cooperation Programme
The International Peace and Cooperation Programme is one of SaferAfrica's three main programmes. It comprises a dedicated agenda on all aspects of International and African Peace and Cooperation issues including:
- the AU common agendas and processes such as the Post Conflict Reconstruction and Development policy,
- the Common African Defence and Security Policies,
- the evolution of Peace Support Operations (Global and African),
- the economics of conflict and peace including the control, management and defense of resources,
- the changing role of the safety and security instruments (Global and African),
- Mainstreaming African DDR and SSR concepts into international policy,
- the Peace, Safety, Security and Cooperation continuum (Global and African),
- the generation of new interactions in the South-South peace, cooperation and development agendas.
The programme replaced and expanded on the old SaferAfrica programmes in relation to African peace and security and South-South interactions. It draw together the many past projects undertaken to service evolving global, Africa, North-South and South-South initiatives in the service of international peace and cooperation. The Head of this programme is Virginia Gamba.
