Operation Rachel X (II)

Operation Rachel X (II) commenced on the 2 nd October 2004 and will last until the 21 st October 2004. A large number of confirmed illegal arms caches, 30 in total, together with approximately 30 unconfirmed arms caches will be destroyed during this three week operation. SaferAfrica has committed itself to the fundraising process that will focus on the continuation of Operation Rachel and its commitments in Mozambique and for that reason when SaferAfrica again was approached to assist in raising funds for operation Rachel X (II) it did so without hesitation. Funds were secured from The Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Export Control Policy Section Counter-Proliferation Department in the United Kingdom Government.

Ettienne Hennop, Programme Officer in the Arms Unit at SaferAfrica will spend a few days with the Rachel team in Mozambique during the last phase of the operation to see first hand the destruction of some of the firearms and other war related material. We will keep you posted on statistics and photos of the visit later this month.
