ARPCCO – Counter-Terrorism Course. Pretoria , May 3 2004

Mrs. Virginia Gamba, from SaferAfrica took part in the opening ceremony in the opening ceremony of the SARPCCO Counter-Terrorism Course at the National SAPS detective academy. SaferAfrica is accompanying the SAPS as the Chair of the SARPCCO training package for the creation of multi-disciplinary law enforcement units, as it is established by its mandate. At the 7th SARPCCO Annual General Meeting, the Police Commissioners decided to establish a Task Team to draft a counter-terrorism curriculum. Two Task Team meetings have been held with the support of SaferAfrica. These meetings determined the curriculum on counter-terrorism that was launched on the 3 rd of May with the purpose of equipping police officials within the region with the necessary knowledge and skill to address terrorism. The curriculum deals with the following issues: Legal Aspects of terrorism; Introduction to Policy, Strategy and Standard Operating Procedures; Intelligence Cycle; Intelligence Coordination and International Cooperation; Border Control; Operational Response; Investigation of Terrorist Act and; Role of the Media.
